The cap of the pen is engraved with cave painting motifs. The barrel, which is gold-plated with lacquer embellishments, displays other early forms of writing as finely drawn symbols, hand-engraved in masterly fashion. The individual epochs are visually separated by gold-plated rings, in order to symbolise appropriately the line of development.

The incomparable nature of this collectors’ item is very apparent in the 18-carat gold nib, which is embossed with a unique design for this edition. On the clip, the shape of which reflects the overall form of the pen, the same pattern as is embossed in high relief, recessed into the clip.

The plunger fountain pen is to be produced in a limited edition restricted to 930 examples worldwide: this recalls the first European adaptation of the Phoenician alphabet, which occurred on Crete in around 930 BC. This Special Edition built on the M800 frame acknowledges the millennium with the celebration of the International Exhibition in Hannover, Germany in the year 2000. The theme of the Exhibition is "Humankind-Nature-Technology". Pelikan commemorated the Expo by issuing three pens in the three years prior to the Exhibition.

The Commonwealth Games 1998 were held for the first time in an Asian country, Malaysia, more specifically the capital, Kuala Lumpur. There were 888 (a very lucky number in Chinese tradition) pens in this edition which commemorates the gathering of 67 nations for the glory of sport.

An 18 karat gold sleeve adorns the barrel which is gracefully enhanced by an ornamental design of the hibiscus, Malaysia's heraldic symbol. It has an 18 karat, two-tone nib set in an ebony black pen and is built on the M800 frame.

M400 / M800

I have the M800 in stock in red with black stripes with 18Kmedium nib. List is $310, our price is less (please ask!). Like most Pelikan pens, the nibs easily unscrew and you can buy any of 10 nib sizes to suit your mood. The M800 has a brass mechinism, is 5.5" closed, 5" open w/out cap'posted' on the back, and is about 9/16" in diameter. Retail is $455, but ask us for a better deal!

The M400 looks much like the M800 except that the 400 comes with an all-gold 14k nib, has a plastic mechanism, is 5" closed, 4-3/4" open, 1/2" diameter and weighs about 3/4 of the M800. Retail is $265.

This stand is now in stock and comes in single and double versions. The 'checkerboard' appearance of the glass is solely a web artifact. The single base and socket is $189 ($250 list) and the dual base and sockets is $249 ($325 list). You need to specify which model pen(s) you need sockets for and they can be mixed and matched.
